Why Women Love Lifting Heavy Things or “Should”

strength training for women

Although most women won’t admit it initially, they really do love lifting heavy things. It’s empowering, exhilarating,  addicting, and most importantly transforming. Plus, from a functional standpoint,  it burns the most calories in the shortest amount of time.

We’ve been in business now for a little over 5 years, and have been training people for 10+ years.  It never seems to fail. It doesn’t matter how old the client is, whether she plays(ed) sports, how out of shape she is, or how afraid she is of lifting weights for fear of gaining weight , once she starts lifting heavy, she doesn’t want to stop. Even the most girly of girly girls will sheepishly admit it’s fun lifting heavy things. And best of all, it really helps women lose weight and tighten up, which just reinforces its importance.

So drop the pink dumbbells, hop off the treadmill, and tell the guys to get out of your way. You’re ready for a barbell and heavy weights.

Benefits of Barbell Strength Training for Women

  1. Burn calories all day – Increase your metabolism up to 48 hours after a single barbell workout.
  2. Create an hourglass figure – Toning the glutes and shoulders create the illusion of a smaller waist giving women the coveted hourglass figure.  You can’t get that from the treadmill.
  3. Make dieting easier – The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn everyday. The higher your resting metabolic rate, the less you have to rely on your diet to lose weight. Barbell training builds and tones muscles.
  4. Don’t break a hip – Strength training builds strong bones and helps prevent osteoporosis. Avoid the dreaded hunchback as you age by lifting heavy weights.
  5. Wear jeans you love – Squats, deadlifts, and hip thrusts build glutes that don’t sag or appear flat. Strong, firm glutes make jeans look great.
