3 No-Nonsense Diet Tips

I have no doubt that at some point in all our lives up to this point we have started a diet and eventually failed to stick with it long-term. We underestimate the difficulty of changing what we eat everyday. Eating healthy is a habit. So is eating junk food. As human beings we are creatures of habit, thus we resist change.

It’s easy to do something differently once, but it’s much more difficult to do it repeatedly. The good news in all this is that once we change one of our habits for a month the change sticks. We’ve simply replaced the old habit with the new one. Use the 3 tips that follow to finally change your eating habits for good.

3 No-Nonsense Diet Tips

1) Throw your junk food away right now.

I’m serious. Get up from in front to the computer or put your phone/iPad down, and go take all of the junk food out of your kitchen, put it in a trash bag(s), and take it out to the barrel or dumpster. Don’t come back to read the next two tips until the job is done because if the junk is still in your house all the motivation and advice in the world won’t keep you from eventually eating it. Plus when you throw all that stuff away you are reducing the stress in your life by decluttering your thoughts. You don’t have to think and worry about eating that food because it’s not there.

2) Develop a recovery plan for when you slip up and cheat.

It will happen to all of us. We will eat a “bad” meal, or go out partying with friends every now and then. Don’t focus on slipping up. Focus on recovering quickly after you do. Your eating habits will only regress if you keep eating those “bad” meals over and over again. In the grand scheme of things one meal is not going to break you. When you fall off the wagon accept it, don’t screw around, and get right back on as quickly as you can. I call it “stopping the bleeding.”

3) Do not over complicate your diet.

You already know what you should and should not eat. You don’t need to read a book to tell you what’s healthy and what’s not. Just use good judgement when you are making your food choices. Look at it this way, the more you have to think about it, the less likely you are to stay with it. Your diet philosophy can be reduced down to simply making good choices.

To be blunt, most of the people that are meticulous and haggle about their diet are just trying to make up an excuse for not working hard enough in the gym. Walking on the treadmill for 20 minutes every other day isn’t going to cut it. To see big changes you have to challenge yourself by pushing to the point of failure, and you have to do so on a regular basis.

When you leave the gym you should look like you just went to battle…..minus the blood of course.
