Member of the Month June 2013 – Jeff Drew

Each month at Ageless we highlight one of our members that has put extraordinary effort into his or her fitness to such a level that their energy is contagious and spreads to others throughout the gym.

This month we are highlighting Jeff Drew as our member of the month. We asked Jeff a few questions about his fitness and workout routine. These are his responses:

What got you interested in fitness?

I got interested in fitness at first just to try and pass the time during college. When I was at SIUE I’d have three plus hours between classes some semesters so I started going to the fitness center. Why not get on a treadmill or bike instead of sitting on a couch. After I graduated, without a gym nearby, workouts weren’t as frequent. Then once Ageless opened I got back into working out.

How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?

If you want to get a workout in you just have to make time. The summer months are a little harder with more stuff going on, but once you find the time that works best for you, stick to it! After it becomes part of your regular schedule you won’t want to miss it.

What tip(s) would you offer someone who is just starting out?

Don’t be afraid to try out the classes that are offered. There are people in there at all different levels and there’s someone there that will make sure you’re doing everything right so you don’t hurt yourself. Or if classes aren’t your thing, find a workout partner so you have someone to push you through it if you feel like stopping. There are also competitions going on at the gym throughout the year. If you are a competitive person this could be the thing for you.

What is your current workout routine?

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t live at the gym. I’m usually at Ageless 4-5 days a week. I try and get into one or two spin classes a week. I also go to some of the other classes that are offered and get on a treadmill or elliptical. Two or three days a week I do weight lifting. There are some days I’ll be up at the gym more than once.

In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?

The biggest benefit has to be getting healthy. You also just feel good when you leave the gym after a tough workout.

Have you seen good results? If so could you go into detail about them?

I’ve seen results from being at the gym. I’ve gone from walking the entire time on the treadmill to running the entire time. A few years ago I wouldn’t have even thought of doing anything with weights, and like I said I lift two or three days during the week.

How has being a member at Ageless helped you on your fitness journey?

Being a member has been a crucial part in my fitness journey. Without the gym my main workouts would have been walks and bike rides, and I definitely wouldn’t have pushed myself nearly as hard as I do at the gym. Being a member of Ageless you have someone there to help you reach your maximum potential.
