The Great Turkey Chase of 2019 – Ageless in Gillespie

Shhhh.. We’re hunting for turkeys.

Okay, okay. We’re not really hunting for turkeys, but our 5k participants are going to be chasing a guy riding a bicycle with a turkey hat on his head, and our one-mile fun run participants are going to be led by a guy wearing a turkey suit. Close enough, right?

The Great Turkey Chase of 2019 at Ageless in Gillespie – a HomeGrown intiative

Usually, on Thanksgiving morning, we have a Gobble ‘Til You Wobble workout for our Ageless gym family. However, this year, because we’re not having our Haunted 5k GloRun on Halloween, we decided to switch things up a bit. Instead of a workout, we’re going to be hosting a 5k and 1-mile fun run at 8am Thanksgiving morning. The proceeds from the race will go towards the upcoming GHS’ band and choir trip to Disney.

And that’s not all… Instead of race t-shirts, as a thank-you for helping us catch that spry ‘ole turkey, we’re going to celebrate our catch at Gotcha Latte in Gillespie after the race. Every paid participant will get a $5 gift card for coffee and doughnuts after the race.

What better way to start your Thanksgiving than with some outdoor exercise and caffeine from two great HomeGrown businesses?

What is HomeGrown?

It’s not a person, business, organization, or group of people. It’s simply a belief or a perspective if you will.

If your HomeGrown, you take pride in your hometown. You do. You give. You invest your time, money and/or energy. You understand that what makes your hometown great, and in fact, the only thing that makes it great, is the people, the community. Like the mighty redwood, our roots run deep and create their power not by their size or strength but by their relationships to those around them.

So, this 5k is the first HomeGrown initiative. It’s about creating a win-win-win-win because a podium for just one winner just doesn’t make sense when it comes to your hometown.

Win #1 – Ageless wins because we get to celebrate Thanksgiving with what we do best – exercise with our members.

Win #2 – The community wins because now those that were thinking of traveling for a turkey 5k in another community can stay at home and run one in their “backyard” with friends and family.

Win #3 – The GHS band/choir win because hopefully when it’s all over, we have $1,000 or more to donate to their upcoming trip.

Win #4 – Gotcha Latte, a new small business in Gillespie, wins because hopefully, they’ll have 100+ runners getting a coffee after the race. That has to be a personal record.
