The Hop – A New Class for Senior Citizens

Who said Elvis was dead?

The glory days of the 50’s and 60’s are back. Grab those poodle skirts, shine that old Ford Fairlane Skyliner, and don’t forget your water bottle.

Starting in August Ageless in Gillespie will be offering an exercise class designed specifically for our “not as young as our younger” members. So, if you danced to Elvis, enjoyed a few late nights at the Coliseum, or had milkshakes brought to you by a waitress on rollerskates, this class is for you!

Come on to the hop on Tuesday and Friday mornings as 50’s and 60’s music plays on the jukebox and dance your way through a series of exercises with the help of Reggie and Amber over the course of 30 minutes. Don’t worry about the intensity. This will be low impact, low intensity. Heck, you may not even sweat. We’re just trying to help you make the golden years a little more golden. Gossip, laugh, and exercise your way to a quality of life you deserve in your retirement.

Where – Ageless in Gillespie

When – Tuesday and Friday mornings 8:30am-9am starting in August

What: A 30-minute class focused on low impact, easy exercise movements that mimic movement patterns you use in the real world. This class is not designed for weight loss. Instead, we just want to keep you moving and out of the nursing home, and we want to do that in a private, non-intimidating, fun atmosphere.

Who: Members of Ageless in their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even 90’s

About the exercises:
The exercises used in this class are a lot like the exercises used at gyms like Curves. We call them “grease the groove” movements because they resemble movements you do in everyday life – bending down to grab a bag of groceries, lifting something over your head to put it in a cabinet, squatting down in your garden to pull weeds, pushing a lawn mower, carrying your grandkid’s in your arms, etc. We use light resistance bands, body weight, and very light dumbbells. By performing these movement patterns twice per week you’ll keep those neural circuits and muscles firing strong so that your retirement is spent doing what you want to do when you want to do it – independence.
