Starting September 1st there will be a price increase for the MyZone heart rate monitors. The new price will be $75. You will still be able to rent one for $15 per month. However, if you don’t purchase your rental by September 1st and you decide to purchase one after the 1st, the purchase price will be $75.
We hate price increases as much as anyone. We do our best to keep the gym as affordable as possible. In fact, we haven’t raised our membership prices once since 2008. We’ve done everything in our power to keep expenses controlled so we didn’t have to resort to price increases.
We’ve been paying $62.50 for each monitor and selling them for $60 (MyZone sells them for $149.99). From a business standpoint, that doesn’t make much sense. However, since the Polar monitors were an absolute disaster we felt we couldn’t possibly sell these for more than what we were paying for them until we could prove that real-time heart rate monitoring is a game-changer. We’ve been using them for over a month, and almost ever single member who has bought or rented one has had nothing but great things to say about them. They can completely change the dynamics of a workout for the better. Thus, we feel a price increase is justified, especially if it means we can use the profit to purchase more equipment.
Again, thanks for being such great members.
This price increase only affects purchases, not rentals. You will also still be able to spread the cost of the monitor out over the length of your multi-month membership.
