Vertical Jump Program for Basketball and Volleyball

There’s not an athlete playing basketball or volleyball that cannot benefit from an increase in his vertical jump. All you have to do is peruse the profiles of various high school, college, and professional athletes, and you’ll quickly see a pattern. The athletes at the top of the pyramid are bigger, faster, and stronger. When it comes to basketball and volleyball, those that can jump the highest have a huge advantage. 

Unfortunately, most athletes assume all they need to increase their vertical jump is a plyometric jumping program. Unfortunately, not only is that extremely inefficient at increasing the vertical jump when used alone, but it also can lead to serious injury. 

Instead, athletes need a complete program like the one we use in our vertical jump program. That includes:

  • A complete jump profile to objectively quantify their strength and weaknesses with the vertical jump.
  • Mobility drills.
  • Stability/Core drills.
  • Strength exercises
  • Power/Explosive exercises
  • Plyometric drills in the proper progression. 

Our programs are progressed via the pyramid below:

Athletic Training at Ageless in Gillespie

  1. First Priority – Creating functional movement patterns via mobility and stability exercise progressions using the Functional Movement Screen.
  2. 2nd Priority – Adding general strength to fundamental movement patterns that are found in all sports.
  3. 3rd Priority – Expressing the new levels of strength as quickly as possible, also known as power development.
  4. 4th Priority – Transferring the power from the weight room onto the field, using high-level plyometrics. 

Program Details:

When: Spring 2019

What: Two sixty minute jump sessions per week for 4 weeks (8 total sessions)

Who: 7th grade – high school basketball and volleyball players

Cost: $80 for 4 weeks (8 sessions)

Limitations: No more than 4 athletes will be allowed per training session.  Spots are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, and are limited.
