The Crossover Basketball Camp

The Crossover Camp Philosophy

If there is one move that every young player needs to improve, it’s the crossover. It is THE fundamental offensive move in basketball. Watch any great scorer at any level, and you’ll notice that they all have a crossover that cannot be stopped by a single defender.

Unfortunately, most kids are erroneously taught the wrong mechanics. Rarely will you see a coach discuss the footwork needed for a crossover, nor will you hear anything about keeping the hand on the outside of the ball. It’s those simple things that create a great crossover. And it’s those simple things that we drill over and over and over again until the athlete is confident she can’t be stopped on the basketball court.

Our Rules

We have 5 simple rules:

  1. Fundamentals win championships.
  2. Repetition is the key to mastery.
  3. Simple progressions result in unbelievable improvements.
  4. Failure leads to success.
  5. Love to train. Love to play. Love to win.

Training Session Template

Great players are great because they’ve mastered the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, and shooting. So that’s what we teach. And we teach them over and over and over again until they become automatic. The majority of our training philosophy is built upon the works of Dr. Carol Dweck and Daniel Coyle.

1st Quarter – The Crossover – Step 1

Includes various dribbling drills working on the hesitation and first step of the crossover.

2nd Quarter – The Crossover Step 2

Includes various dribbling drills working on the hand placement for the crossover and the 2nd step.

3rd Quarter – The Complete Crossover

Includes various dribbling drills focusing on on putting the 1st and 2nd step together to create an explosive, unstoppable crossover.

4th Quarter – Games

This is when we see if the work we’ve put in is paying off. We use small-sided games to create a game-like atmosphere to see if our athletes are improving on the court.

Coaches

We do offer team training session. If you’re located within 40 miles of Gillespie, IL, we offer team training sessions for $119 per session for up to 10 players. We’ll just need basketballs and a court. We’ll bring the medicine balls, mitts, pads, and our other tools. Please contact tjallan30@gmail.com if interested.

What do some of our athletes say?

Nick said Allan helped push him to a higher level to get him ready for varsity play this year. ‘He said if I wanted to play varsity, I had to be able to handle the ball more,’ Nick said. ‘And I needed to be a knock-down shooter. T.J. comes to all of our games and supports us. He works with a lot of guys on the team. He’s helped Evan and me a lot.’ Nick Price Rising Prices spark Gillespie basketball success

‘It’s made me so much better, it’s unbelievable,’ she said. ‘At first, I almost didn’t want to go. But every since I went there, I’ve improved so much. We dribble so much (at 4th Quarter Training), then work on form shooting and shots off screens. Anything and everything.’ – Abby Brockmeyer, Brockmeyer makes big impact for Litchfield girls

‘In our training sessions, T.J. will have us shoot free throws after about an hour of training,’ Evan said. ‘He says shooting free throws is toughest when you’re tired. But he also says free throws are mostly mental. It’s all about mental toughness.’ – Evan Price, Rising Prices spark Gillespie basketball success
