I'm a pharmacist, trainer, and small business owner. I graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2007 with my Doctorate of Pharmacy. Over the past 9 years, I've been in charge of a Sullivan's Drugs, which does a little more than $2 million in sales annually.
Although I truly enjoy pharmacy and its ability to help people, fitness is where my heart is at. I started my first gym in 2007 with childhood friend. It started out in 2,000 square foot building, and since then has grown to a 9,000 square foot 24 hour gym called Ageless, which the Hometown model is based on. During those 9, almost 10 years, I got gym fever and opened 4 more gyms. I ended up selling two, and currently am an owner of 3 gyms (co-owner of IO and Flow). I've done all of this while still working full-time as a pharmacist.
Unlike most fitness coaches (which I am not, but you've probably already designated me as one), I'm not boxed into one model. Ageless is a 24 Hour Gym located in a small, rural town in Illinois. Iron Orchid is a small, high-end personal training-only studio located in a suburb of St. Louis. Flow is a pay-per-class spin studio also located in a suburb of St. Louis. 3 gyms. 3 completely different models. 3 different perspectives. All successful.
Because of that, I can say without hesitation that the Hometown Gym model is THE best model for the majority of people interested in opening a gym.
And just to make sure my hunch was right, I helped an owner, with very little fitness experience, open his own Hometown Gym almost two years ago. With some hard work and guidance, it too became a successful, profitable gym.
