Of course, with so much brain power at last week’s meeting of the minds at Ageless, awesome ideas were running rampant. For a split second, we actually thought our brain power was so intense that we were powering the lights and treadmills at A2. We quickly realized it was just Quincy and Isaiah acting like a couple of jack monkeys. And by quickly, I mean there may have been a long pause between 3 and 5 minutes during which we all stared at each other in disbelief with our new found superpower.
Nonetheless, a few of those ideas centered around adding a few new classes to both gyms, and possibly tweaking a few existing classes to improve “user experience.”The problem was and still is finding time slots that are available at either location.
The Buddy(B2) Class
There’s just something about a struggle and/or challenge that brings two people closer together. There’s nothing more intimate than staring into your lover’s (or best friend’s) eyes as you’re soaked in sweat, your heart feeling like it’s going to beat out of your chest, and not being able to catch your breath long enough to utter your last words. As the saying goes, a couple that lifts together, stays together.
Call it couple’s therapy, the buddy system, or whatever you want. You just need a partner to attend this class. We don’t care if it’s your significant other, your best friend, your frenemy, or some random person you just picked up on the street. If it has a heart beat and opposable thumbs, it will do.
B2 will be 45 minutes of heart-pounding, sweat-pouring, partner-bonding action. And best of all, you’ll be serenaded by artists like Boys II Men, John Legend, and Michael Buble. Just imagine if Jillian Michaels was the DJ for your 7th grade Valentine’s Day dance.
All exercises in this circuit will be two-person challenges. Much like a bootcamp, this class is designed to ignite your fat burning cauldron.
Days/times: TBD (The exact date and time will be determined by March 1st)
Instructor: TBD
Bad Man’s Training, a division of AthFreaks
We’ve decided to up the ante on Bad Man’s Training. Since the majority of members who attend this class are diehards, we’re going to create an entire system to create the ultimate beach body (as well as the ultimate metabolic machinery to destroy a 5k obstacle course race) – two metabolic sessions, 2 strength/muscle-building sessions done on your own, and a complete diet designed to get you shredded.Plus, we may even bring the lanterns back, and train by candlelight, just like the gladiators.
Toss the diet pills out of the window because BMT is all you will need. And best of all, if you hit your goal, you’ll get a free limited edition BMT t-shirt:
However, because we’re giving you so much awesome stuff for free, we do have a a few requirements:
- You must attend 70% of the metabolic sessions. The strength/muscle-building workouts are done on your own.
- Unless you are already on a program, we want you to follow our diet and strength workouts as closely as possible. The diet was designed by our friends at Precision Nutrition, the leading nutritional resource for professional athletes. The strength workouts are based off of the work of Jim Wendler and his HUGELY popular program 5/3/1.
- Before and after pictures would be awesome, even if you are the only one that sees them.
Dates/Times: Late March (the exact date will be determined by March1st), Monday and Wednesday at A2 at 8:00pm.
Instructor: T.J., CSCs, FMS level I
Speed Training for Football, Baseball, and Soccer for Young Athletes, a division of AthFreaks
It’s back.. Speed training will be offered at both locations. And best of all, it will be tailored to your child’s sport. The first 35 minutes will focus on creating the ultimate warmup, proper sprinting mechanics, and fundamental movements patterns that are prerequisites to speed training. The last 25 minutes we’ll split the athletes into groups according to their primary sport and work on sport-specific speed drills.
Football – Lateral cutting and acceleration
Soccer – Quick lateral cuts, long distance sprints
Baseball – Crossover step for base stealing
Dates/Times: Late March, TBD (Exact date and time will be announced by March 1st), available at both Ageless and A2.
Instructor: T.J., CSCS, FMS level I with the help of current high school and college athletes.
GloKick and Piloxing Combo
Everyone loves GloKick. It also seems everyone loves Piloxing. The problem is we don’t have enough hours in our schedule to offer both at Gillespie. If we offer one at 5:30pm, it’s too early for most. If we offer one at 7:30pm, it’s too late for most. 6:30pm is the sweet spot. Unfortunately, we don’t have any 6:30pm time slots available. So, on Wednesdays, instead of just offering GloKick, we’re going to offer a GloKick/Piloxing class that will last a little over an hour. You’ll get 35 minutes of GloKick followed by 35 minutes of Piloxing. Now that’s a workout!
Dates/Times: Wednesdays starting March 1st 6:30-7:45pm. This will be only at Ageless since A2 has GloKick and Piloxing on separate nights.
Instructor: Corrie Laux and Meredith.
Total Body Spin and Bootcamp w/ Amber Combo
With the success of the GluteCamp & Total Body Spin combo class on Thursday nights, we’ve decided to combine Total Body Spin with Amber’s bootcamp. Of course, if you don’t want to participate in one of the sections, you don’t have to. You are required to register for this class online because there are only 24 spots available.
What’s the difference between this and GluteCamp with Total Body Spin? The bootcamp portion of this class will be like a traditional bootcamp using circuits and density sets. The majority of the exercises will be total body exercises unlike the exercises in Glutecamp that just focuses on the glutes.
Dates/Times: Tuesdays at 6:30pm at Ageless in Gillespie starting March 1st.
Instructors: Pete and Amber
The Dribbling School: The Killer Crossover Camp, a division of AthFreaks
We’ve had such an overwhelming response to our 4th Quarter Basketball training that we’d decided to offer an additional camp that works specifically on basketball dribbling for players in 7th-12th grade. Same intensity. Same drills. More convenient for multi-sport athletes.
Why Dribbling?
If you can dribble, you can play. The most important position on the floor is the point guard. Seeing the floor, handling the pressure from the defense, and orchestrating the offense are all responsibilities of the point guard. They are also all critical components of the game of basketball. Watch a team with a poor point guard and compare it to a team with an outstanding point guard (even if that point guard doesn’t score a point), and you’ll notice how much more fluid the offense is. Every player on the floor benefits from a great point guard. And it all starts with dribbling.
