Exercises You Should Be Doing – Kettlebell Swings

kettlebell swing for cardio

Most of us are crunched for time. We’re pulled 15 different ways – kids, jobs, friends, and an entire list of of other responsibilities.  So when we hit the gym, we need to make it as efficient and as effective as possible. We CAN’T waste time. Kettlebell swings just might be the most efficient exercise in our toolbox because they burn a “whole lotta” calories while simultaneously molding fantastic glutes.

Why we love it:

  • It burns calories – It burns almost as many calories as an intense run on the treadmill.  If you’re bored with the treadmill, swings are a great alternative.
  • It creates great glutes – Unlike the treadmill, swings attack the glutes and hamstrings, two problem areas for most women.
  • It’s convenient – It requires very little space and very little equipment. You can do it in your house, outside,  in a hotel room, or at the gym.
  • It relives pain – Once you learn to turn the glutes on, back pain and knee pain have a tendency to dissipate.

And just like the hip thrust, athletes should pay attention. It’s a great explosive posterior chain exercise. We use it to increase linear speed, the vertical jump, and as an assistance exercise to increase the deadlift and squat.
